It sometimes feels like we need to wait for the beginning of the year to make resolutions to better our lives. But the truth is, we can start making changes to our lives whenever we want.
I’ve found that the more organized my environment is, the more organized and at peace my mind is. So as the summer ends, I’ve made it my goal to reorganize my life and build healthy routines going into the new season.
Don’t Underestimate To-Do Lists
One of the best tools for building routines that I’ve found is a good, old-fashioned to-do list. Research says that by setting small goals for yourself and writing them down on a to-do list, you can help your brain move around the mind-block caused by overwhelming tasks and can help you be productive in accomplishing smaller steps toward that larger goal. These mini-goals should be detailed and able to be completed within relatively short time-frames in order to be most effective, according to experts.
And come on, we all know there’s nothing quite as satisfying as checking something off your to-do list.
Consistent Self-Care
My biggest goals for the next few months are to be more consistent with my self care. For me, that means smaller goals of working out at least 3 times a week, prepping dinner and breakfast for myself, and developing a strong skincare routine.
Break up your day
I’m also trying to break my day up into smaller time blocks to accomplish different things. For instance, my early mornings will be my time for working out, morning journaling, and my AM skincare routine. Middays will be my working hours, and my evenings will be time to relax, meal prep for the next day, and finish my PM skincare.
Create a skincare routine
I’m also using this period of re-organization to refresh my skincare routine with Wake. I use the basic Wake products, the Facial Cleansing Gel, the Daily Face Moisturiser, and the Honey Lip Balm as part of my morning and night routine. In the mornings, I’ve been adding the Reinvigorating Daily Toner to soothe my skin and promote skin complexion and the Brightening Eye Gel to brighten the appearance of eyes for a refreshed look in the morning. In the evenings, I use the BHA Papaya Exfoliating Gel to break down dead skin cells and the Pink Clay Face Mask for a deep cleansing and detoxification to round out my skincare routine.
Skincare has been the best routine to start my days refreshed and end my days relaxed. Checking my skincare routine off my to-do-list in the morning lets my brain relax into the flow of the routine and sets me up for a more productive day.
Building more structure into your life is never easy. I hope these tips bring you some guidance wherever you are in your reorganization journey. And remember you don’t have to wait for a new season or year to build a better routine!
